Title: Sending Mari Nakada (as the first WUB Scholarship Recipient)

Caption above the picture:

The first scholarship recipient of the WUB Scholarship Endowment Fund was selected from Peru. The Okinawan community has particularly high expectations for Mary Nakada (29 yrs), third generation Okinawan (Izena-son).

Summary of the article:

Last year, Robert Nakasone, founder of WUB International, proposed the establishment of the Worldwide Uchinanchu Business Scholarship Endowment Fund to provide scholarships for participants from the Okinawan community to the East-West Center. This proposal was discussed and approved at the 10th WUB International Conference held this January.

The WUB International Scholarship Endowment Fund and the East-West Center fund this scholarship program. The University of Hawaii will also be supporting the program. The plan of the program is to send students selected from the WUB community (17 countries and regions, 21 branches) every year. For the first year, a master's degree level student will be sent for a 5-months program to further develop one's leadership skills.

Ms. Mary Nakada is born in Lima, Peru and attended Roosevelt High School. After graduation, she continued her education at Ohio Wesleyan University and Norte Dame University, Indiana, and obtained her masterÕs degree. She now teaches photography to students at an art school in Lima. She has also participated in WUB conferences as an interpreter.

She now lives with her father, her grandparents, and her brother. Okinawan community is expressing high expectations for her.
